Currently, the Raiders play at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland. The stadium is also the home for the MLB's Oakland A's, who discussed stadium options with the MLB a week earlier, according to Artz's report.
So why did the NFL and the Raiders meet secretly on August 9?
The NFL requested it, and the Raiders would like a new stadium to play in, per Artz's report:
The Raiders have said they prefer to stay in Oakland, but want a replacement for the 46-year-old O.co Coliseum they share with the A's.
It's hard to blame the Raiders for wanting to upgrade their home-field advantage. Changing locations in Oakland wouldn't result in the death of the Black Hole, or the incredible atmosphere that exists at the Coliseum today.
Therefore, the pros outweigh the cons.
The Coliseum has been home to the Raiders for over 30 years, and it even welcomed them back after the franchise returned from Los Angeles in 1995.
The problem: It's old.
It's time for the Oakland Raiders to show that they are ready to move on from the past decade of ineptitude by waving a bittersweet goodbye to the place that housed them when they were in the American Football League.
The spirit of the Black Hole will not die. It can't.
As long as the Raiders are in town, they will always be one of the league's more intimidating opponents to face on the road.
Their fans are loud, scary and they love their football. Regardless of how many extra miles they have to drive to tailgate every week, it won't change the passion and excitement that they bring to Raiders' home games.
