Wimbley, a fourth-year veteran out of Florida State, has started for the Browns the last four years.
He was a first-round draft pick, 13th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft.
After racking up 11 sacks in his rookie season, many thought he would be one of the next great linebackers of the NFL.
But in the two years following, he only recorded a total of seven sacks.
Some Browns fans fault a lack of talent at the linebacker position and on defense in general, in preventing him from getting a chance to make big plays.
Wimbley set the Browns franchise rookie record with 11 sacks in one season.
In his career, he's recorded 129 solo tackles, twenty sacks, one interception, and six forced fumbles.
This move comes just minutes after the Browns announced they would trade QB Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos.
