The NHL released the following statement on Tuesday:
The Los Angeles Kings have been fined $100,000 for violating the terms of defenseman Slava Voynov's suspension, the National Hockey League announced today.
Voynov skated with teammates today during a Club practice. Such activity is in direct contravention of the terms of the suspension levied Oct. 20, which permit Mr. Voynov to use club facilities and work with team personnel but prohibit his participation in any team-related functions or activities.
On Monday, Voynov pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against him, per Katie Strang of ESPN.com. Voynov is being charged with "one felony count of corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury" after an October dispute between he and his wife, Marta Varlamova, who has requested he not be charged in the incident.
Per Strang's report, Voynov has been paid during his suspension but the NHL has allowed to Kings to treat him like a player on long-term injured reserve, lessening the blow to their salary cap. It remains unclear if the Kings' violation of the terms of Voynov's suspension will have any bearing on that agreement.
Voynov, 24, has appeared in six games for the Kings this season, notching two assists and just over 23 minutes of ice time per contest. He's played 190 games for the Kings over the past four years, scoring 18 goals, adding 63 assists and compiling a plus-23 plus-minus rating overall.
