One option that may be on the table for the Lakers is Nick Young, who is currently set to become a free agent this summer.
Young was acquired by the Clippers at the trade deadline from Washington, but only started in three games and averaged just 9.7 PPG, 1.6 RPG and 0.5 APG. He did not play much defense. It’s not likely the organization will pursue the possibility of re-signing him.
Chris Palmer of ESPN is reporting that the volume-shooting 2 guard is now on the Lakers’ radar and the team is exploring the possibility of adding him for what has to be depth purposes behind Kobe Bryant.
The last thing LA needs is another guy to come on the floor that does nothing but jack up bad shots when the Black Mamba comes out for a rest.
Kobe can get away with taking ridiculous, ill-advised shots because he has a gift for making them. He’s proven time and time again that he’s one of the best players to ever step on a basketball court.
Young, at his finest, is a mediocre guard who can get on a hot streak and make buckets from anywhere on the floor for small stretches. Unfortunately, he’ll shoot without a conscience even when he is ice cold.
LA needs more consistent players that work well with Bryant. Versatile big men, like Lamar Odom (in his prime), and clutch three-point shooting guards to fill Derek Fisher’s shoes are what the team should be looking for. The absence of both those players came back to haunt the Lakers in the postseason.
