The NBA has been around for 63 years, and only 64 different times have individual players averaged over 30 points per game in a season.
The first time it happened was 1960. When rookie Wilt Chamberlain dominated with 37.6 points each game. The league was small and mostly white at the time, but in that same season, Jack Twyman scored over 30 points per game.
Overall, Michael Jordan did it a record eight times and Wilt Chamberlain did it seven times, and they are ranked Nos. 1 and No. 2 for their careers on the all-time scoring per game list. Both with an amazing 30.1 career PPG.
Jordan led the NBA in scoring 10 times and Wilt did it seven. These are the two greatest players ever.
Oscar Robertson averaged over 30 points six times. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West, and Allen Iverson did it four times.
