Pau Gasol Trade Rumors: Best Fits for Lakers Veteran

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly looking to shake things up this summer and Pau Gasol might be the marquee player on the move.

According to Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News:

The Lakers are committed to moving Pau Gasol — the fall guy for their second-round ouster against the Thunder and previous playoff failures — even if they have to take back less talent.

With Kobe Bryant approaching the twilight of his Hall of Fame career and Andrew Bynum emerging as the top big man out west, GM Mitch Kupchak has got to make some drastic changes to his roster in order to win another title in the immediate future.

Here are some franchises that Pau Gasol would fit with.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Spanish PF was originally drafted by this team and played his first six and a half seasons there before being traded to L.A.

Lawrence found that owner Michael Heisley is still interested in bringing back the All-Star and would love to pair him with his brother, Marc Gasol, along the Memphis front line.

Zach Randolph or Rudy Gay would likely have to go in return, as the Lakers need a talented starting swingman like Gay or a replacement 4 in Randolph.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets were on the cusp of acquiring Pau back in December, but the league vetoed the three-way deal between the Lakers, New Orleans Hornets and Houston that would have sent Chris Paul to Hollywood and Gasol to Houston.

They haven’t lost interest in bringing in the big man and could offer up Kyle Lowry and Luis Scola in exchange for his services.

The Lakers could definitely use a solid PG like Lowry now that Ramon Sessions has reportedly opted out of his contract for the upcoming season, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.
