This does not come as a surprise, but it is nice to get this out of the way and made official. Jackson, one could argue, was the single biggest difference maker for the Raiders in 2010.
The Raiders improved dramatically on the offensive side of the ball with Jackson calling the plays. The 410 points the Raiders scored was more than double last season's point total.
Darren McFadden, who was starting to be labeled a bust by many members of the media and Raider fans alike, came to life and had a Pro Bowl-caliber season.
Along with Michael Bush, he helped the Raiders become the No. 2 rushing offense in the NFL.
The fact McFadden was healthy certainly helped, but so did the play-calling of Jackson.
While the passing offense was still a work in progress, it did show signs of life for the first time in a long time.
Jason Campbell was able to make some plays down the field with his young receivers and should only get better heading into his second year in the same system.
While a lot of Raider Nation will always have a soft spot for Tom Cable, I feel this will ultimately turn out to be the best thing for the Raiders. Jackson was a hot commodity and was going to be a head coach somewhere, soon.
Locking him up now was the only choice Al Davis had.
I could be wrong, but I think Tom Cable will not be a head coach again. He'll go back to being a good offensive line coach for someone, while Hue Jackson, in my opinion, will lead the Raiders to a very bright future starting in 2011.
The time is now to "Just Win Baby," and by hiring Hue Jackson as head coach, Al Davis...
