As it stands right now, Richard Seymour still hasn't signed the franchise tag or showed up to practices in Oakland.
During mini camp Tom Cable was asked about Richard Seymours' absence and contract negotiations. Then Tom Cable sounded confident saying a deal would get done.
Fast forward to this week and suddenly Tom Cable doesn't appear nearly as confident. Suggesting that there hasn't been any progress on trade talks.
When asked if Richard Seymour would attend any practices this month or next, Tom Cable said, "I don't know that at this point."
So is it time to worry?... Maybe, as this raises alot of questions.
Is it possible that Richard Seymour really doesn't want to play in Oakland like so many suggested when we traded for him?
Or Maybe Seymour saw how much money JaMarcus Russell, Javon Walker, DeAngelo and Nnamdi Asomugha got paid and believes he deserves the same.
Richard Seymour may be planning a holdout unless he is traded or recieves the money he wants. We have already heard reports suggesting Darrelle Revis (CB Jets), Chris Johnson (RB Titans) and Andre Johnson (WR Texans) may be planning to hold out. Why can't a 30 year-old defensive end do the same?
Holdouts, if not resolved, often hurt everyone. The player doesn't practice or get paid and the team misses out on a viable play maker until a compromise is reached, either a trade or a new contract.
But on the bright side, it is very possible Seymour fully plans on signing a deal with the Raiders. He just isn't in a hurry to show up to practice in Oakland. I mean the guy is a veteran.
