Yamon Figurs: What Can He Bring to the Oakland Raiders?

This year, the Raiders have had a seemingly quiet offseason: No big name signings, only one trade, and a bunch of tabloid-like rumors regarding our QBs waistline.

One thing that seemed to go unnoticed by many was the free-agent signing of Yamon Figurs.

Figurs is a typical Al Davis pickup; yep, you guessed it, this guy is a speedster.

In 2007, the 5'11'', 185 lb. receiver and return specialist was the fastest man in the combine, running a 4.30 in the 40-yard dash—which was enough to warrant a third round pick by the Baltimore Ravens.

Figurs has struggled as a receiver with only one reception in each of his three years in the league.

But he wasn't drafted to catch the ball—he was drafted for special teams.

In his rookie year, he returned 16 punts for 171 yards and one TD, along with 46 kicks for 1,138 yards and a 94-yard TD.

In 2008, his numbers dropped, with only 29 kick returns for 608 yards. And in 2009, he had only 109 yards, playing three games for the Bucs and Lions.

Now, he is in Oakland with hopes of adding a spark to the Raiders underachieving return game. Who knows, he may even make a few plays on offense.
